When the Ga first settled on the plains, they were primarily farmers, cultivating crops suited to the coastal savanna environment.
As Accra developed into a coastal trading hub, the Ga increasingly turned to fishing and commerce, especially in imported goods brought by European traders.
Today, many Ga people in the capital are involved in urban trade, services, and formal employment, although traditional fishing communities still thrive in towns like La, Teshie, and Nungua.
