Ghana and AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu has suffered a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, a setback that is expected to rule him out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the remainder of the current club season. The news has sent shockwaves through Ghanaian football, with fans and analysts alike describing the blow as one of the most significant in the Black Stars’ recent history.

The 26‑year‑old centre‑back picked up the injury during AS Monaco’s 3–1 defeat to Olympique Lyon in a recent Ligue 1 fixture, after twisting his knee awkwardly in the course of the game. Subsequent medical scans confirmed a torn ACL, forcing Monaco to rule him out for the rest of the season and schedule surgery followed by a long rehabilitation.

Monaco have publicly pledged full support to Salisu, noting that his recovery timeline is expected to span many months and effectively removes him from their defensive plans for the campaign. The club had relied heavily on his physical presence and reading of the game, particularly after injuries to other key defenders in the squad.
